Nails and the antifungal label

The word that sends many buyers to this line is nail. The labels are specific about where these products apply.

Do over-the-counter antifungals work on nail fungus?

Their labels say no. The federal rule puts one sentence on every such panel: "This product is not effective on the scalp or nails." All 7 Hongo Killer drug labels print it.

What the CDC says about nails

A nail that changes color or shape is not always infected, and the CDC's advice starts with a test, not a product.

Finger and toenails can become discolored or change shape for many different reasons including previous injuries. Talk to a healthcare provider about testing before beginning treatment for a fungal infection.

Antifungal Solution is a drug: undecylenic acid 25%, with a Drug Facts panel that lists athlete's foot and ringworm. Its carton places it on the skin around and next to the nails.

Nail Formula is a cosmetic. Its label speaks of the color of the nail and of cleaning away keratin debris, and states that the product does not contain a drug.

For the cure of most:

  • athlete’s foot (tinea pedis)
  • ringworm (tinea corporis) For the relief of:
  • itching
  • burning
  • scaling

Warnings

Flammable: Keep away from fire and flame.


Do not use

  • on children under 2 years of age unless directed by a doctor

When using this product:

  • avoid contact with eyes or mucous membrane

Stop use and consult a doctor if:

  • irritation occurs
  • there is no improvement within 4 weeks

If pregnant or breast-feeding, consult a health care professional before using the product.


Keep out of reach of children. If swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away·

Directions

  • clean the affected area and dry thoroughly
  • apply a thin layer of Hongo Killer® Antifungal Solution over affected area twice daily (morning and night) or as directed by a doctor
  • supervise children in the use of this product
  • for athlete’s foot: Pay special attention to spaces between toes; wear well fitting, ventilated shoes, and change shoes and socks at least once daily
  • for athlete’s foot and ringworm, use daily for 4 weeks. If condition persists longer, consult a doctor
  • this product is not effective on the scalp or nails

  • store between: 15°-30° C (59°-86° F)
  • protect from freezing, if freezing occurs, warm to room temperature

Warnings
